an update on the projects at Apricity House
It has been a while since I have written about house projects, but behind the scenes projects have been progressing, even if a bit more slowly than anticipated. As I work more and more on renovation projects, I always learn to give myself grace to learn new things, to move through the project at a slower pace, to expect delays. While it is hard sometimes, it is important to appreciate the journey and not just the destination.
I would encourage you in any DIY project to give yourself the freedom to make mistakes, change your design, rework the project if it isn’t what you wanted. It is in those moments that you learn not only to have patience or learn a new skill, but understand how to find joy in the midst of chaos.
This January we kicked off a major update renovation project which we actually hired out due to the scope. We were out of our house for roughly two months and still have not quite had everything wrapped up. As if that weren’t enough, we also purchased a puppy, I started a new job, and we decided to get chickens!
At moments the changes of life during this season have felt overwhelming and have taken time to adjust to. But I am encouraged that by sticking with it and taking small steps each day, we will reach our goals. It’s encouraging to see the changes come even if a whole room isn’t complete yet.
As we kick off our spring season at Apricity, a few projects stand out. First, I am looking forward to progressing on the living room. Last fall we took on the project of starting to redo our fireplace and prep the walls for painting. While the project upstairs, put this on hold, I am excited to have a finished space for hosting and can’t wait to get my hands on a paintbrush and finish off the mantle and walls and install the new lighting we have purchased.
The chickens are the second big project and one that actually has a firm timeline. The process is already in the works for the coop design, and we have started preparing the ground for building on. The backyard continues bit by bit to be transformed and this coop (and the chickens) will take it one step further to bring my dream of a functional yet beautiful backyard space into being.
I am excited to share these moments with you as we dream and plan and bring that vison of beauty to life bit by bit.
